Dear Visitor,
Let me welcome you to the official website of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and thank you for your interest!
Latvia is chairing the NSG for the period 2018-2019. The NSG is a group of forty-eight nuclear supplier countries that seeks to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons through the implementation of two sets of export controls for nuclear and nuclear-related materials.
At its most recent plenary meeting in Jūrmala, 14-15 June 2018, the NSG, among other things, exchanged information on global proliferation challenges and reaffirmed support for the implementation of the Treaty on Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The Plenary also called on all states to exercise utmost vigilance and to make every effort to ensure that none of their exports of goods and technologies contribute to nuclear weapons programs.
Exercising its role as the Chair of the NSG, Latvia promotes international rules-based order, effective multilateralism, contributes to security and strengthens confidence in the non-proliferation regime. I invite you to explore the new content and sections on our website. I also encourage you to review the document “The Nuclear Suppliers Group: Its Origin, Role and Activities”, which can be found in the “Documents” tab.
From 2018 to 2021, my country celebrates 100 years since it became an independent state. I invite you to join Latvia100!
Ambassador Jānis Zlamets,
Chair of the Nuclear Suppliers Group 2018–2019
